As I'm prone to do on weekends for lunch, I explore and sample different ethnic restaurants that are in close proximity to home. I initially looked for Turkish or Persian food after discovering that Shawarma Land in front of the Turkish grocery had been replaced by a not-yet-opened Hot Nashville Chicken Restaurant. Nothing struck my fancy so I researched the adjoining restaurants to the unopened space.
I had passed by Coppelia's several times on my previous jaunts to Shawarma Land and recalled that their breakfasts and Lomo Saltado looked interesting. Surprisingly, Coppelia's has a much more vibrant interior than its previous neighbor. The walls are painted in mustard and pumpkin hues with framed artwork and photos of what I can only assume is a representation of Peruvian towns and life in Peru. The fans seem to cool the space quite a bit so it's very comfortable dining in as opposed to necessitating takeout.
Fernando quickly greeted me with a menu after I seated myself. I ordered the half Peruvian roasted chicken with crispy fries and black beans. It took about ten minutes or so before I received my entree. It was piping hot. I started with the thigh as all foodies do because if that's not tender and moist, all hope is lost for the white meat portion of the chicken.
It did not disappoint. The meat practically fell off the bone. The chicken had a unique tangy marinade mixed with black pepper and a hint of citrus. The skin was slightly crispy and savory. Surprisingly, the breast was equally tender though obviously not as moist since it's a leaner and denser part of the chicken. The beans and rice combo seems like it would have been better suited for the roast chicken rather than the fries that I ordered but I still enjoyed them.
All in all, for the amount of food, it's definitely a good value. I've eaten at other Peruvian restaurants like El Pollo Inka and Lonzo's Restaurant as well as a few other Peruvian pop-ups at Farmers Markets. What I've discovered is they each offer a unique take on the cuisine. Coppelia's roast chicken is quite delicious so I will definitely be back to sample more from their menu. Stay tuned!! -

Tres leches cake is my favorite cake after carrot cake. (SusieCakes has the best carrot cake). Because Coppelia's is known for its tres leches cake, I came to pick one up to celebrate three September birthdays.
From the moment I walked in, Anita was so cheerful, friendly, and welcoming. She wrote the three names on the cake and encouraged me to come back next time to try the mango tres leches. I also picked up a few beef pies and chicken empanadas.
The tres leches cake was rich, yummy, moist (of course), and decadent. Everyone enjoyed it, but you do need a glass of milk to go with it. :)
When you visit Coppelia's, be sure to check in to save 10%! -

We had the tres leches cake, the flan, and empanadas. The empanadas were so flaky and rich. The flan was fantastic--I don't normally like flan but this was rich, thick, and firm, with a ton of flavor. By contrast, the tres leches was delicate and spongy while remaining creamy and delicious.
Plus, the woman who helped us was friendly and really helpful, and gave us tips on tracking down a tough-to-find baking ingredient in the area. -

Stopped by after having Baja style tacos next door for a quick dessert. Since I've been fantasizing about tres leches forever. I decided to give this place a try, heard so many good things about its dessert and specially their cakes.
Ordered 2 slices of tres leches, one with vanilla and the other with chocolate. Both were great but I did like the vanilla slightly more for the milk wetness in the sponge cake. Will definitely come here again to try other Cuban delights -

This place has the most delicious tres/quatro leches cake!!! I stumbled upon this place because a coworker specifically requested tres leches for his birthday - and we have come back for birthday cakes three times since! I have also tried their breakfast burrito which was delicious. The service is wonderful and friendly and I can't wait for another excuse to go pick up another cake!
Warning: Be careful when driving with the cake. The last time it got smashed against the side of the box, hence why the photo looks that way.
